Well, here we go. Another achievement for the state, now that we’ve legalized marijuana- a Pot-Talk radio station. Strike one up for democracy and freedom of speech! The radio station, in Colorado Springs, used to be KREL – an AM Sports-Talk station; those days are over, dude! Now, it’s KHIG “K-High Weed Radio!

They started on Monday, April 13th, 2015. They do all talk, with shows about the legal marijuana industry. Sounds pretty boring, overall. I mean, how much can people sit around and talk about pot? A LOT more people drink craft beer, and shows about that last only a couple of hours PER WEEK! But, you know how it is- folks get a little high, and they begin to ramble. ‘Shut up already, man!’

Apparently, advertisers are lining up around the block to be on the station. That does make a lot of sense: With so many ‘dispensaries’ providing legal marijuana, they all want to let people know where to shop. Even our radio stations here in Windsor have had pot-sellers wanting to buy air-time. We choose not to air that content.

Weed Radio say they’re about ‘talking’ to folks and education them about marihuana, but I have my suspicions: The name of their morning show is ‘Wake-n-Bake’. Clever, though it doesn’t really reek of education. I foresee a lot of dead-air, where a DJ is toking up for the shear pleasure of pleasing their listeners.

The format screams for MUSIC! 70’s classics, some Reggae tunes, a Grateful Dead hour for certain; maybe interspersed with audio from Mr. Rogers Neighborhood! Come on, guys—if you’re going to do Pot Radio- DO Pot Radio! ‘The Doritos All-Munchie Lunch Hour” seems obvious! Get into it, is all I’m saying!

With April 20th approaching (4/20), these guys are sure to see a spike in their ratings...otherwise, I think they'll last as long a a cheap joint.

Good luck, bros!
