Jon Stewart Leaving ‘The Daily Show,’ 2015 Retirement Announced

Jon Stewart Retiring The Daily Show 2015
Comedy Central

Just when we thought the state of Comedy Central’s late-night lineup had settled, following Larry Wilmore’s ‘Nightly Show’ takeover from ‘The Colbert Report,’ ol’ Jon Stewart done spun us about once more. Word has come in that ‘The Daily Show’ host announced his retirement during tonight’s taping, ostensibly after Stewart’s current contract.

Details are few and far between at the moment, though we do know that Stewart will exit ‘The Daily Show’ at some point in 2015. Comedy Central released a statement thanking Stewart for his tenure, albeit without any additional details:

For the better part of the last two decades, we have had the incredible honor and privilege of working with Jon Stewart. His comedic brilliance is second to none> Jon has been at the heart of Comedy Central, championing and nurturing the best talent in the industry, in front of and behind the camera. Through his unique voice and vision, The Daily Show has become a cultural touchstone for millions of fans, and an unparalleled platform for political comedy that will endure for years to come. Jon will remain at the helm of The Daily Show until later this year. He is a comic genius, generous with his time and talent, and will always be a part of the Comedy Central family.

We’ll post updates as they arrive, and tune in for Jon’s official announcement with the airing of tonight’s ‘The Daily Show.’ The end times have truly come, it seems. Well, at least we have Spider-Man.
