It’s Colorado School Choice Week
Governor Hickenlooper has proclaimed Jan 26-Feb 1 as Colorado School Choice Week.
Every January, National School Choice Week provides an unprecedented opportunity
to shine a positive spotlight on the need for effective education options for all children.
Here are National School Choice Week events taking place in Northern Colorado:
Saint John the Evangelist School | Jan 27, 2014 | 10:00 am–2:00 pm | Loveland, Co
Americans For Prosperity Foundation- CO | Jan 27, 2014 | 6:30 pm–8:30 pm | Fort Collins, CO
Classical Conversations | Jan 29, 2014 | 6:00 pm–8:00 pm | Loveland, CO
Participants in National School Choice believe that parents should be empowered to choose the best educational environments for their children. Colorado has the following:
|Mandatory Inter-District Public School Choice: allowing parents to send their children to different public schools, regardless of their ZIP code or school district.|
|Public Charter Schools: free public schools that are empowered to innovate and are held accountable for results.|
|Public Magnet Schools: free public schools that are focused around a specific theme, such as math and science or the arts.|
|Online Learning: a full-time, online, and free public school that students can attend instead of a traditional bricks-and-mortar school.|
|Private School Choice: state programs that provide scholarships, tax credits, tax deductions, or school vouchers empowering parents to use a portion of the tax funds set aside for their children’s education to send their children to private schools.|
|Homeschooling Freedom: allowing parents the ability to educate children in the home.
