Is the Big Thompson Indian Village Near Estes Park Still Standing After the Big Thompson Flood of 2013?

The Big Thompson Indian Village gift and antique shop was one of the only stores in the area to make it through the flood of 1976 in Big Thompson Canyon. That being said we have seen horrible photos coming in of devastation in the canyon. The question is, did the Big Thompson Indian Village make it through the flood of 2013?

We received a call from Mary Carman, daughter-in-law of the owners, and she tragically informed us that the Big Thompson Indian Village did not make it through the flood. All that remains of the village are the sign, wagon and horse trailer. Here is what's left from a National Guard photo we were able to find.

The map below shows where the Indian Village was located along Highway 34 between Loveland and Estes Park.

The Indian Village is loved by many; that is apparent from the number of questions we have seen about the store floating around social media in the aftermath of the flood. Carman is now collecting photos and stories from the store's forty plus year history to create a scrapbook of happy memories for owners Lena and Howard Carmen.

Mary believes Lena and Howard first opened the store back in 1972. Mary also said that Lena is in "bad shape," and thinks the scrapbook would be a perfect way to show her and Howard just how much their store was loved.
