The suspect in the shooting that occurred in Evans Friday morning as been identified as 30 year old Hugo Garza. According to a press release, Garza has been transported to the Weld County Jail and booked on two counts of Attempted First Degree murder of a Peace Officer, two counts of Attempted First Degree murder, and a single count of Possession of a Weapon by a previous offender.

Friday morning around 10:40am, Evans police officers responded to the 3500 block of Pueblo Street on a report of a man and woman arguing. While officers were responding, dispatch advised the male was now shooting at the female who was running away.  Weld County Communications then reported the male was sitting in a vehicle in the street.  As the first two officers arrived on scene, Garza again fired his weapon, this time in the direction of officers.  The officers challenged Garza to drop the gun, put his hands up, and exit the vehicle.  The suspect complied by throwing a semi-automatic handgun out of the window of the vehicle.  Garza stated that he was unable to exit the vehicle because he was either injured and/or stuck in the vehicle. The suspect complied with commands and was taken safely into custody by SWAT officers at about 12:00 PM.  Neither the suspect nor responding officers were injured.

No weapons were fired by officers during the incident.
