Improvements to the Prospect and College intersection in Fort Collins will begin in February and go through July of this year.

The project will require three primary phases of full traffic closures from mid-February through mid-April to expedite the project.. From mid-April through July, daily lane closures will be expected until the completion of the project.

According to the City of Fort Collins, this spot is one of the top-ranked locations for safety and efficiency improvements. This intersection accommodates nearly 70,000 cars per day. The last time improvements were made to this area was in 1995.

Goals of the project

  • Safety Improvements: adding medians, pedestrian refuge areas and a multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists
  • Congestion Reduction and Improved Air Quality: adding new left-turn lanes, optimizing signal timing and reducing vehicle wait times
  • Aesthetic Upgrades: adding landscape design elements to improve the look of this gateway intersection
  • Storm sewer Infrastructure Improvements: Upgrading the current storm sewer in accordance with the Storm water Master Plan to prevent flooding around the intersection
