Strokes can result in severe brain damage, and can even be fatal, which is why if you think you may be having one, it is an emergency. Not only is it important to get help quickly, but also, think F.A.S.T. — Face, Arm, Speech and Time.

The National Stroke Association and the American College of Emergency Physicians recommend asking these four questions if you, or someone else, may be having a stroke:

  1. Is one side of the face drooping?
  2. Is one arm weaker than the other?
  3. Are you, or someone else, having difficulty with speech?
  4. Time is critical; call 9-1-1.
