Watching the video above, something happened to me that had never happened before--I wanted to be on Snookie's team. As she flies over the section of Seaside Heights where she has passed out, blacked out, made out and did everything else out that one could do, she cried. Jersey Shore as a show is a bit of a mockery. Her feelings for one of her favorite places in the world was obviously not.

Boardwalks, amusement parks, and other such attractions are not my cup of tea, but at this point, what I like does not matter, because this is a part of America and a part of Americana.

This area means so much to such a large portion of our country that it's time to chip in. Even though my idea of a vacation spot and their idea of a vacation spot couldn't be more different, our love for the part of the country that we call home is the same.

Starting at 11 p.m. (Eastern) on Thursday night, MTV's 'Restore the Shore' will feature “some of entertainment’s biggest stars” helping to raise money for the Seaside Heights rebuilding effort.

The fundraising extravaganza will last an hour and feature MTV celebs calling donors with messages of thanks, stars giving messages of support, and live performances by artists like Gym Class Heroes and 'American Idol' winner Phillip Phillips.

Also expected to appear are Ne-Yo, One Direction, Bruno Mars, the Jonas Brothers, Kim Kardashian and fun., among others. The cast of ‘Jersey Shore’ will be manning the phones, as will stars from ‘Awkward,’ ‘Teen Wolf,’ ‘Teen Mom,’ ‘The Challenge’ and ‘The Real World.’

But if you're so inclined, you don’t have to wait until tonight to make a donation to the ‘Restore the Shore’ effort. If you pitch in $25 or more now, MTV will give you a bundle that includes 30 songs from the past six seasons of ‘Jersey Shore.’ And if that’s not your thing, you can always text a $10 donation to 85944 with the word SHORE.

According to MTV, the funds raised through this campaign will go to Architecture for Humanity, the non-profit organization that led rebuilding efforts in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake. The group is already in the process of rebuilding the famous Jersey Shore boardwalk, as well as local businesses and homes in Seaside Heights.

In a more localized effort, Townsquare Media New Jersey is also getting in on the action, so be sure to check that site for ongoing updates about the recovery efforts.

The video above shows Snooki helicoptering over her beloved Jersey Shore, tearfully surveying the storm damage. If you haven't seen photos of what's left of the boardwalk and such, here are a few shots:
