How to Adjust a Locked Thermostat

Last Summer, some friends of ours rented a clubhouse for an impromptu wedding reception (they had already had a reception at their wedding, but this was a casual second celebration for people who couldn't make it to the first one).  Anyway, once all the guests had arrived, it got incredibly hot, both inside and outside.  We all scrambled to find a thermostat to turn the air conditioning on; but when we finally did, it was locked behind a plastic cage!  If only I'd thought of this trick, we wouldn't have had to wait for the sun to go down to cool everyone off.

I'm not saying I condone breaking the rules; but I am saying that it's important to have priorities.  And I'd say the comfort of your guests at an important event is pretty high on the list, wouldn't you?  So here's how to get around that pesky cage:
