The state of Colorado has enjoyed a long hunting season for the past 20 years, and according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife this year will be no different.

In a story done by the Journal-Advocate, with a record number of mallards and green-winged teal helping the cause, a long season along with high bag counts will be the norm again in 2015.

Drought conditions have also improved around the state, meaning that water should be available in most reservoirs, streams, ponds, and wetlands around the state. According to CPW, the improved conditions also mean that there will be good supplies of natural food and grain for waterfowl which should attract and hold them to key parts of Colorado.

CPW warns that the weather will, as always, be the wild card in how the hunting season actually fares in 2015. They recommend Colorado waterfowl hunters to look for strong cold systems to help push the waterfowl further south.

Hunters 16 or older must have a small game license, youth small game or combination license, federal Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp and a Colorado Waterfowl Stamp to hunt waterfowl. Federal stamps are available at post offices and CPW offices. The State stamps are available at all CPW offices, from license agents, online, and by phone at 1-800-244-5613. Anyone aged 18 through 64 must buy a habitat stamp in order to buy or apply for a hunting or fishing license.
