If you live around the midtown area of Fort Collins, you probably know there is no getting through the west side of the intersection on Horsetooth at Timberline right now.

Timberline traffic goes through both ways, though more slowly because the construction is affecting the flow. On Horsetooth, traffic can go all the way east to west to Timberline, then they must detour.

That part of Horsetooth won't be open for long. The west side of the intersection will be closed completely come July 13 as crews cram to try to complete the project by the time the kids return to Fort Collins High School.

This closure will shut it down for two full weeks.

“Allowing a full closure for two weeks on Horsetooth Road will help us maximize construction during the summer months, when Fort Collins High School is out,” said City of Fort Collins Civil Engineer, Dan Woodward, “we hope to have the new and improved intersection completed before November.”

They are completely redoing the intersection, and not a moment too soon. It was outdated and had trouble handling the fairly massive amount of traffic that passes through it every day.

The new intersection will feature turn lanes, pedestrian enhancements and other safety features and streetscaping that should make it very nice to look at and drive through.
