October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

I heard a quote once that I thought was pretty powerful.

"There are two types of women in this world; those with breast cancer and those who are terrified of it."

Too true, but the activities of October are designed to help both those that are dealing with breast cancer and those who are taking strides to avoid it. The whole month is filled with wonderful fundraisers that provide programs and campaigns that educate women on what to do to stack the odds on their side.

Hope Lives, the Lydia Dody Breast Cancer Support Center holds their annual gala this time each autumn, and this year's event promises to be as touching, fun and successful as ever.

The signature moment from the Hope Lives Celebrate Life in Pink Gala is the Survivor Fashion Show. That is just what it sounds like: Women who have survived breast cancer model fashions from local merchants and clothiers. This is the 15th year of 'Celebrating Life in Pink' so this years event promises to be something special.

I spoke with Melissa Venable about Hope Lives and their upcoming gala at the Embassy Suites and she explained how

We've [Hope Lives] been serving women for the last 15 years and we've provided over thousand and thousands of free services in that time....every year over 200 women in Larimer County alone are diagnosed with breast cancer...We just want to make sure we get the word out to let them know that if they've been diagnosed they are eligible for services. There are no other requirements. It doesn't matter if they have insurance or not, it doesn't matter any income levels, if they have a breast cancer diagnosis they are able to receive these services for free. They just need to get in touch with us.

Free services for women with Breast Cancer. That's what your ticket price and auction bids go toward. Very good. Tickets are still available here.
