Homes Evacuated Due to Mud Slides
While our parched state gets much need rain, our neighbors in Poudre Canyon
struggle with a flooding Poudre River, but there’s good news for a fix.
Residents were temporarily evacuated from their Rist Canyon homes yesterday because of flooding and mud slides. They were allowed to return home Sunday night. The mudslides and flooding were near Colorado 14 and Davis Ranch Road at about 5:15 p.m. An evacuation notice went out to more than 40 people in the Falls Creek Drive area just before 7 p.m. It wasn’t known as of late last night if there was any damage to structures reported.
Colorado transportation officials plan a nearly $2.5 million project to try to prevent mudslides and washouts on Colorado Highway 14 in Poudre Canyon where the High Park Fire burned last year. CDOT plans to replace six undersized culverts to alleviate the threat. The department plans to hold public meetings about the project in August. The design phase should be complete by September.
