Gwen Stefani Has No Plans to Go Solo Again
When a group’s lead singer has success with solo projects, they typically leave their former bandmates in the rearview mirror (just ask Destiny’s Child and ‘N Sync about that). But Gwen Stefani is different. After releasing two popular albums, the No Doubt frontwoman could’ve very easily carried on as a solo act — but she says those days are behind her now.
When asked if she planned to record another album on her own, Stefani told The UK’s Daily Record, “No, I don’t think so. I was always thinking of that as a moment in time and you can never say never. But these last couple of years have been overwhelming for me, with having so much going on, and my husband being on tour, and just trying to do it all, which is not possible.”
And when she says “do it all,” she’s not kidding. Not only is she a wife to rock star Gavin Rossdale and the mother of their two young children, she helms the L.A.M.B. and Harajuku Lovers fashion lines — and yet she still somehow found time to get together with No Doubt so they could record ‘Push and Shove,’ their first album in a decade.
“We were only able to get together three days a week and, because I had the kids, there was only a limited amount of time,” Stefani said. “I was exhausted by the time I got there, so it was a struggle trying to weigh and balance everything out with the kids. But it was that fight that made the record so great.”
Her fellow bandmates have also gone on to have families of their own, so touring won’t be easy as it was back in 1995 when No Doubt shot to fame with the release of ‘Tragic Kingdom.’ But the 41-year-old Stefani (who’s even more gorgeous now than she was in her 20s) says they’re up for the challenge, joking, “We’ll have to learn from Angelina and Brad.”
