A jury has convicted a Greeley woman of contributing to the delinquency of a minor after she was accused of encouraging her son to fight another boy at a Greeley high school. Julie Benavidez was arrested in November after her 15-year-old son was in a fight with a student at Jefferson High School. Authorities said she was standing by and encouraging the altercation. According to the Greeley Tribune, her defense attorney said the fact that Benavidez was standing nearby while the boys fought does not mean she encouraged them. Benavidez is scheduled to be sentenced June 10th.
