Twelve communities in Colorado have recently been designated as official state Creative Districts, with Greeley being one of these places that has demonstrated and met the standards of earning this honor. The twelve locations that have been named as Colorado Creative Districts are all amazing examples of how the arts have created exciting places for people to live, and furthermore, how they have helped to increase the quality of life, in a variety of ways. Not only do these districts attract artists and creative entrepreneurs to the community, but they also help to promote each of these town's unique identities by showcasing the culture, and in turn, helping to boost the economy. Some of the things that were taken into consideration by Colorado Creative Industries, when determining which communities would be recognized, were:

  • A Certified Creative District must capture its unique story and reflect that story
  • A Certified Creative District must be integrated with other community systems such as planning, economic development, tourism, transportation, urban renewal, safety and public gathering spaces
  • A Certified Creative District must have local government endorsement.

Greeley's Creative District was chosen largely due to the liveliness and artistic diversity that comes along with being a college town. Encompassing the downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods near UNC, the town's dynamic creative district is filled with dozens of galleries, theatres, museums, historic architecture, and public art that continually inspires locals on a daily basis. Some of the other artsy and cultural events that also take place here are the UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival, Friday Fest, AgriCulture Fest and Feast, the Arts Picnic, and many other mini-concert performance series.
