A Greeley police officer fired shots at a 21-year-old man from Evans Thursday night, after the man drove his vehicle directly toward the officer and then fled the scene.

The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday evening, after Greeley police had gotten a tip that Kyle Joseph Moore, who was wanted out of Weld County for a felony warrant for fleeing prosecution, had been spotted at Sanborn Park in South Greeley. When officers arrived, they located Moore sitting in the parking lot in his Jeep Cherokee.

When an officer attempted to approach Moore in the parking lot, the suspect put his car into gear and drove straight towards the officer. Out of fear for his safety, the officer who's name is not currently being released, fired at least one round at Moore's Jeep.

Moore then reversed his car, backing into another parked car during the process, and fled the scene. He led police on a brief chase south on 35th Avenue, but failed to obey a traffic light at the intersection with U.S. 34 Bypass and caused an accident with two other vehicles.

The passengers from the other two vehicles that were involved in the crash sustained minor injuries. Moore was taken to North Colorado Medical Center for evaluation of his injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening.

Besides the felony warrant that was issued to Moore back in February, at the time of his arrest, he also had an active warrant out of Jefferson County, two other bench warrants, and three local warrants. The investigation is still ongoing. Upon being released, it is likely that he will be booked into Weld County Jail on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and vehicular eluding, in addition to his other warrants.
