Greeley-Evans Crime Log: Cats to Coffee

The Greeley-Evans crime log is out once again and it definitely goes without saying, that our law enforcement agencies do not get the near the credit they deserve. Take a look.

As the Greeley Tribune reported, the Greeley-Evans crime log for April 15th-20th is out and just keeps us going what is going on with some people. Take a look:

Wednesday, April 15

11:15 a.m.: Greeley police responded to the 2700 block of 11th Avenue for a report of a white man who was loitering and harassing customers at a local liquor store. Police caught up with the man at a nearby coffee shop, where he had purchased a cup of coffee — possibly a vanilla latte — and was not causing a disturbance.

2:15 p.m.: Greeley police responded to the 7100 block of 12th Street for a report of a snake. It was not threatening anyone.

Thursday, April 16

8:30 a.m.: Greeley police responded to 4th Street and 40th Avenue for a report of a car that was being driven regularly, but not parking in the same place on the street. The caller thought the movement was suspicious.

Saturday, April 18

11 a.m.: Greeley police responded to the 2300 block of 10th Street after a homeless man called dispatch requesting an animal control officer respond to take possession of his cat, which he couldn’t take care of anymore. Police told the man they could not just take possession of an animal and that he would need to make arrangements with the local humane society. The man said he’d just “be leaving the cat somewhere.”

5:45 p.m.: Greeley police responded to 17th Avenue for a report of an intoxicated 25-year-old woman who was having an argument with her mother and putting her own children in danger. Officers responded and found the woman was not drunk, the house was clean and the children appeared happy and healthy.

7:45 p.m.: Greeley police responded to the 1500 block of 31st Avenue for a report of a man being harassed by gang members. The man would not rat out the gang members over the phone. A search of previous service calls showed police had responded to the home dozens of times in the last several months. During the most recent call earlier in April, the caller was arrested for firing several shots from his handgun at invisible people in his house. The man said he no longer owned any firearms.

11:45 p.m.: Greeley police responded — again — to the 1500 block of 31st Avenue for a report of a man receiving death threats from people inside his basement.

Sunday, April 19

1 p.m.: Greeley police responded to the 900 block of 8th Avenue for a report of a man who had a shoebox containing a baby squirrel in his car. There was nothing further.

Monday, April 20

12:45 a.m.: Greeley police responded to the 4300 block of 2nd Street for a report of a cat that gave birth to a litter of kittens on a resident’s porch and then left the scene.

12:30 p.m.: Greeley police responded to F Street and 59th Avenue for a report of a black horse that looked like it was on the ground dead. Another horse was standing beside it not doing anything. Officers determined the horse on the ground was a sleeping colt. The standing horse was the colt’s mother.

2:45 p.m.: Evans police were called to respond to an elementary school in the 2000 block of 34th Street for a report of a dead cat in an area where kids would be walking home from class. The caller wanted the cat removed before school let out for the day. School officials responded to the area, but were unable to locate the dead cat.

5 p.m.: Greeley police responded to 11th Avenue and 19th Street for a report of a child standing on the sidewalk waving at cars.

7 p.m.: Greeley police responded to a park in the 2200 block of 41st Avenue for a report of animals that were being sacrificed. The caller thanked police for sending extra patrols to ensure the critters are looked after and cared for.
