Greeley District 6 Teacher’s Workday To Increase by 30 Minutes Under New Contract

Greely Evans School Disrict 6, Facebook

The Greeley-Evans School District 6 Board of Education and the Greeley Education Association have approved a new master agreement for the 2013-14 school year. The focus of the negotiations was on improving student achievement and the continuation of the partnership between GEA and District 6 for stronger public schools in Greeley. This year’s negotiations process was collaborative, with both sides bringing numerous proposals that resulted in many compromises.

“GEA and the district kept the best interests of students and teachers in mind throughout the process,” Delgado said.

“This will be helpful to our teachers and empower our principals for the long-term benefit of our students,” said Board of Education President Doug Lidiak.

Changes in the master contract include:

Teacher’s workday will increase by 30 minutes to an 8.5 hour day.
Planning time for teachers was standardized at all grade levels.
Added flexibility will be built into future academic schedules based on language changes to the contract.
A new health insurance benefits package for employees was approved.
Updated language to comply with the state New Teacher Effectiveness law was incorporated.
Teachers will be given regular performance and academic steps, as outlined in the master contract, for the 2013-14 school year.
A performance step in the master contract that was frozen in 2010-11 was restored.
These two actions will result in an average 5.88 percent increase for employees across the district.

This contract will go into effect July 1, 2013 and continue through June 30, 2014.
