July is National Parks and Recreation Month and Greeley is celebrating with some thrilling family events that are sure to create some Wild excitement this summer during its “Get Wild” promotion.

Here are Greeley’s “Get Wild” events planned for the rest of the summer.

  • Submit your photos to facebook.com/GreeleyRec and be entered into a contest to win prizes for the best picture of you or your family going Wild about recreation in Greeley. The contest will run from July 19-27, 2012.
  • Kick off the week with a Wild West BBQ Thursday, July 19 from 11:30am-1pm at the Greeley Senior Activity Center located at 1010 6th Street (970.350.9440). For only $3 you can enjoy an old fashioned picnic complete with delicious hamburgers, potato salad, baked beans, watermelon and a beverage – lunch provided on a first come, first served basis.
  • Head to Discovery Bay Waterpark (715 E. 24th Street) on Friday, July 20 from 6-8pm for a free evening of swimming sponsored by Poudre Valley Health System’s Healthy Kids Club, then stroll down the street to play some beach volleyball with the Latino Chamber of Northern Colorado before the free Neighborhood Nights film Dolphin Tale (rated PG) which begins at dusk at East Memorial Park (3200 Balsam Avenue).
  • Wrap up the week with Crazy Hair Night at the Greeley Ice Haus, located at 900 8th Avenue (970.350.9402, www.greeleyicehaus.com) during their Cosmic Skating Friday Theme Nights, July 27 from 7:15-8:45pm – bring a buddy wearing crazy hair and receive 2-for-1 admission (regularly $5 admission with $2 skate rental).
