It all started in 1985 by a member of the Loveland Police’s Crime Prevention Unit, and they have been doing it every year since: The Loveland Fishing Derby! Kids under the age of 15 come out and get to fish for free, without needing a pesky license. It goes from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m., and will have a lot additional events going on. They’ll have prizes, raffles, food, and education. Colorado Youth Outdoors will be there showing kids how to clean their fish (gross!), and they’ll actually be frying up the fish that the kids catch if they want!

This is a true Loveland tradition. Sure, it gets pretty busy over there with upwards of 600 kids showing up to get their fish on, but it’s FUN! Everyone 15 and over can enjoy some fishing after the derby is over at 3:00. So, pack up the kids, the poles and the smiles! Let’s derby!
