The Georgetown Loop Railroad is a tour of the actual railways that served the interests of the old time silver miners. There is an accompanying mine tour that goes into the side of the mountain and shows where and how they used to dig into the Rocky Mountains in search of precious metals. The engines that pull the tours are authentic 1928 trains, but the rails have been maintained and many have been replaced so the ride is old school, but safe.

There a bunch of different options, from closed cars and first class to open car, or a car that just is open but has a roof on it. During the tour, a conductor relates interesting tidbits of history all about the history of the area, the tracks, the mines and miners, even pointing out the one flat spot in the rugged terrain that they used to play baseball.

The rides do fill up, especially on the weekends, so it's recommended to call ahead and see if they are busy or make a reservation. The rides and schedule are seasonal, and they have special holiday themed rides for Halloween, Christmas and more.
