Free Food Fridge in Fort Collins: FoCo Cafe’s ‘Freedge’
Say that five times fast. The FoCo Cafe, a non-profit eatery in Old Town is introducing a community fridge in an effort to reduce food waste -- and feed more.
FoCo Cafe already does a great job of serving up fresh, nutritious and local food to anyone and everyone, regardless of means, in our Northern Colorado community. Now, in an effort to keep food going into our mouths, and not the trash bin, the FoCo Cafe will be installing a 'Freedge;' an energy-efficient community refrigerator.
To raise the funds to purchase the Freedge, FoCo Cafe will be having a yard sale and silent auction on Saturday July 16, 8 a.m.-1p.m. at the cafe's Old Town location on Maple. You can also donate to the GoFundMe here, started by Rebecca Gregori, a local Spanish teacher who thought of the idea of the Freedge in Fort Collins.
'It makes me sad to see so much edible food go to waste, especially when there are people in our community who are struggling to feed themselves,' she said on the GoFundMe page.
They're well on their way to the $2,000 goal -- we can make this happen!
'If you have a garden, you always have more produce than you can use and often more than you can give to friends. FoCo Cafe is extending an invitation to Fort Collins residents and local restaurants to stock the Freedge with excess food, so that it's available to those in need.
