In honor of the late Nathan Meeker's birthday, the public is invited to tour the founder of Greeley's historic home for free on Saturday, July 9 from 10 a.m – 2 p.m. Besides establishing the city, Meeker is also credited with starting The Greeley Tribune newspaper.

The adobe-style home was made using a mixture of soil, water, straw and manure, which was then molded to make bricks – a design concept that Meeker made popular in Greeley after reading up on the American West. Adobe houses were inexpensive, strong, and well insulated, which kept people warm during Colorado's cold winters. Inside the 1870 two-story homestead are original items and authentic furnishings that once belonged to the Meeker family, or that have been taken from other 19th-century Weld County homes.

In addition to exploring this local landmark, there will be cake, cookies and tea, as well as games for guests to enjoy. The Meeker Home Museum is located at 1324 9th Avenue in Greeley.
