Normally, if you want internet, you have to go through a private company, like Comcast or Century Link. But after a current vote, that may soon change. According to the Coloradoan, voters overwhelmingly voted to back an issue that would give the city the opportunity to provide high-speed internet as a utility. The process will most likely take some time, however, now that the vote has passed, the City Council will now look into the feasibility of a broadband project. The Tuesday (November 3, 2015) vote was the first step in the process to allow the city to provide broadband. The reason the vote was needed, was due to the state law, that prohibits local governments from competing with private companies who provide telecommunication services, unless otherwise overruled by a public vote.

Theoretically, this would allow for more competition in the marketplace when it comes to internet access for business and individuals, driving down the price.

Either way, I'm still wondering what we have to do to get Google Fiber in Northern Colorado. If you're not familiar, Google Fiber is by far the fastest internet on the market, at a very competitive price... $70 a month for 1,000 Mbps, and FREE for 5Mbps.

Voters in Loveland approved a similar broadband initiative as well!
