Multiple law enforcement agencies rolled out another prostitution sting - purposely ran during Cheyenne Frontier Days - resulting in the arrests of 9 men at Fort Collins hotels on Tuesday.

According to the Coloradoan, the sting operated similarly to past stings wherein Fort Collins police officers with the Neighborhood Enforcement Team listed escort ads on Backpage and Craigslist. Clients interested in female "companionship" responded to the ads and planned to meet at a hotel in Fort Collins.

Obviously, this was a trap, and the men were instead arrested in the parking lot after showing up to an empty hotel room.

The following men were arrested, booked into Larimer County Jail, and formally charged with a single count of patronizing a prostitute, a Class 1 misdemeanor:

  • Jason Vieyra, 45
  • Daniel Perrin, 45
  • Carlos Rivera, 36
  • Ronald Hamblin, 71
  • Dana Edwards, 62
  • Sergio Duran-Rueda, 43
  • Jamie Estergaard, 48
  • Dennis Schwader, 58
  • Jay Altman, 63

Three women were also cited for prostitution, which is a lower-level misdemeanor offense. An additional 2 women were cited for operating without an escort license in the sting (escort services are legal when sex isn't involved).

Agencies involved in the sting include the FBI, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Loveland Police Department, Colorado State Patrol, Larimer County Sheriff's Office, and Larimer County District Attorney's Office, as well as Fort Collins Police Services.

Fort Collins police began cracking down heavily on prostitution in an effort to rid the city of human trafficking.

"A lot of people believe it's 2 consenting adults," Fort Collins police officer Annie Hill told the Coloradoan. "There are some women in the sex industry that are not consenting to their situation. They are either controlled by a pimp or a trafficker or they are in a situation financially that they can't get out of. They have no other options but to keep doing it.

Another sting this week in Cheyenne, Wyoming, gathered several arrests including 4 women accused of prostitution, 8 men (several from Greeley) accused of soliciting prostitutes, and one man who allegedly tried to arrange sex with a juvenile. The Coloradoan says these stings were timed to coincide with Cheyenne Frontier Days.
