People sometimes call me in the morning to let me know that there is a cop sitting in a speed trap, hoping I'll put it over the air, to warn drivers.

My answer? If you don't want a ticket, don't speed.

In my experience, if I'm not breaking the law, the police don't bother me. My radio show is not a vehicle to help people break the law. I have a lot of respect for the job that our police forces do.

In fact, I am super thankful for all of our first responders. Think about it. There are legions of talented, trained, dedicated men and women all across America, and the world, who are on call, waiting for us to have some trouble. When we get into an accident, or someone poses a danger to us, or we otherwise need help, they are on their way, speeding to us, lights blazing, communicators communicating, and they'll do everything they can, including laying their lives on the line, to save or help us.

It's a blessing that not all Earthlings enjoy. And those who do have firefighters, EMT's, paramedics, and police probably don't have ones who are as well trained as the ones in America, and specifically Colorado, are. So when I heard about the fundraiser for fallen officers, the Police Unity Tour, and the fact that numerous Fort Collins officers are riding in it, I was definitely down to help.

The video features Officer Casey Box who is riding for Lietenant Corey Dahlem from Florida Gainesville PD, who was killed during an NCAA championship football celebration after a drunk driver ran a barricade.

Also featured is Officer David Lindsay. He's riding for Seargent Baldwin from Jefferson County Sheriff’s office, a motorcycle officer killed in a head on Collision

Finally we have Officer Maureen Noe. She is riding for Deputy Sam Brownlee from Weld County who was shot by suspect while fighting with him after a domestic dispute.

They need our help to raise funds. Each rider has to raise a certain amount of money for the effort, and there is a fundraiser at the Fort Collins Chick Fil-A on Thursday, November 20, 2014.

The primary purpose of the Police Unity Tour is to raise awareness of Law Enforcement Officers who have died in the line of duty. The secondary purpose is to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial and Museum.

In May 1997, the Police Unity Tour was organized by Officer Patrick P. Montuore of the Florham Park Police Department with the hope of bringing public awareness of Police Officers who have died in the line of duty and to honor their sacrifices.

We started with 18 riders on a four day fund-raising bicycle ride from Florham Park, NJ to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC. which raised $18,000.00. This May we had nearly 1700 members nationwide who made the trip, and we are proud to announce that we were able to donate over 1.72 Million Dollars to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, bringing our total donations to nearly $14 Million.  Inspired by our commitment and our motto, “WE RIDE FOR THOSE WHO DIED” the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund has selected our organization to be the sponsor of the Museum’s Hall of Remembrance.

Having completed the $5 Million commitment to the Museum in 2009, the Police Unity Tour dedicated the 2010 ride to the restoration of the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. The $1.1 Million restoration project includes the re-engraving, coating and sealing of the 19,000+ names on the memorial as well as the cleaning of the walls and other memorial improvements.

Through the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge #3, the City of Fort Collins is sending a group of Officers to ride 280+ miles into Washington D.C. as part of the Police Unity Tour. The Police Unity Tour honors Law Enforcement Officers who have died in the line of duty.  FOP #3 is asking community partners for support. Each rider is required to raise a minimum of $1,850 to participate.  All donations help send a team of local Law Enforcement Officers and members of the FOP to the Unity Tour to ride for a fallen officer.  The funds raised also support maintaining the National Law Enforcement Memorial and help to send fallen officer’s families to National Law Enforcement Week.

For a donation of $1,000 or more, your logo will be prominently displayed on the trailer that will travel with the cyclists on their tour.  We greatly appreciate any level of support you can provide to help send us to this honorary and charitable event.  Donations can be made to the Police Unity Tour, Inc.  Donations made are tax deductible, as the Police Unity Tour is a non-profit organization. Please use tax identification number 22-3530541 for your donation to the Police Unity Tour. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

This is a very special event to local Officers as many have had friends, coworkers, and loved ones that have made the ultimate sacrifice protecting their community
