If you have walked around Fort Collins you have most likely noticed that police officers are wearing body worn cameras. In 2013 they started piloting the body camera program and expanded it earlier this year from 20 to 60 at a cost of $181,000. As technology expands, law enforcement agencies are looking for resources like these cameras to help save personnel time and money by dealing with disputes against officers by showing how a situation unfolded in a more clear manner. A local example of this is would be the 2013 Campus West riot. As the usage of these types of devices are expanding on a local level, there is a national White House online petition that has been signed by more than 154,000 residents urging that a law be passed making it a mandate that all officers have to wear these cameras, among other things. They are looking at a large scale deployment of these body camera, however it would literally take and act of Congress to get them passes.
