The mother of a Fort Collins girl who passed away earlier this month has been arrested in connection with her daughter's death.

According to a news release from FCPS, 22-year-old Alexa Coria was arrested for her involvement in the death of her 11-month-old daughter on charges of child abuse resulting in death, accessory to a crime, and attempt to influence a public servant, all felonies.

Juan Francisco Canales Hernandez was arrested for the September 7 incident the following day for allegedly inflicting injuries on the girl at an apartment on Blue Spurce Drive while Coria was away. When Coria returned, she attempted to revive the girl but efforts proved unsuccessful. Both Coria and Hernandez drove the girl to Poudre Valley Hospital where they told doctors, and later police, that the girl had accidentally fallen while trying to pull herself up. Doctors determined that their story was not consistent with the life-threatening injuries, which were the result of non-accidental trauma. The girl was airlifted to Children's Hospital in Aurora and passed away on September 9.

Hernandez faces charges of first-degree murder, child abuse resulting in death, attempt to influence a public servant, and habitual child abuse. Both Hernandez and Coria are booked into Larimer County Jail.
