If you really want to know more about "going green" then you may want to take a tour of the Garbage Garage at the landfill in Fort Collins. They have a free educational day coming up on Friday, February 26th from 10 am to 12 noon. The Garbage Garage actually won an award for "Outstanding Colorado Recycling/Diversion Program". This is a great chance to see why. You need to register in advance. Call 970-498-5772 or email rwatson@larimer.org .

The Garbage Garage opened in 2003 and has been a great success. Last year, more than 2,100 visitors of all ages toured the education center, coming from as far as Nebraska and Washington. The center has displays and interactive activities relating to the 3 Rs-reducing, reusing and recycling-landfills and household hazardous wastes.

"It's a pretty unique place," said Cheryl Kolus, the solid waste department's environmental educator. "Visitors are always impressed with what they see and learn here. Who knew learning about trash could be so fun?"
