A Fort Collin’s landmark is all set to get a facelift. The Avery House originally built in 1879 by one of Fort Collin’s founding fathers, Frank Avery is to be renovated.

The Fort Collin’s Coloradoan’ Pat Ferrier is reporting on the $700,000 project at the corner of College Ave. and Mountain.

Workers on a cold and rainy September morning removed six feet from the front of Rocky Mountain Olive Oil Co., the beginning of a $700,000, nine-month renovation at one of Fort Collins’ most iconic buildings.

Shielded from the rain and pedestrians by plywood modules, workers began Wednesday building a new facade that will eventually grace the two-story red sandstone Avery Building, considered one of the city’s most important buildings.

The landmark at Mountain and College avenues – sometimes referred to as “main and main” – is being refurbished to return the building to its historic roots.

The work is being done by a partnership of the Colorado State Historical Fund, the city of Fort Collins, Downtown Deve-lopment Authority and the building ownership group comprised of Palmer Properties, Palmos Develop-ment Corp., Dimitrios Katopodis.

The costs are being shared by the DDA, which kicked in $135,484 in grants to refurbish the building’s facade, the Colorado Historical Fund, $215,135, and the ownership group, about $350,000.
