Fort Collins Police Services is accepting applications for its 2016 Youth Police Academy now through April 28.

The 5-day awareness program gives students a firsthand look at and involves discussions about crime scene investigation, evidence collecting, search and seizure, building searches, K-9 dog activities, investigations, SWAT Team, court procedures, traffic laws, defensive driving, officer safety skills, and more.

The program runs June 6-10, 2016 at Fort Collins Police Services from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Students currently in grades 9-12 may apply to the Youth Police Academy and are selected based on interest in law enforcement, commitment to success at the academy, minimum of 2.5 GPA cumulative, recommendation from school personnel (teacher, counselor, or administrator), and no serious criminal background.

To apply, fill out Fort Collins Police Services' application (find it HERE), obtain a letter of recommendation, and return it to Fort Collins Police Services or your School Resource Officer.
