Did you know that a home can waste at least 10,000 gallons of water in a year due to leaky faucets? That's like 270 loads of laundry! Fix a Leak week can help solve that problem.

It's hard to fathom how a home can waste as much as 10,000 gallons of water each year due to leaky faucets, showerheads, toilets etc. but it is true. In fact, the United States Environmental Protection Agency says that across the country, the total figure is around a trillion gallons wasted overall.

So, in conjunction with the Environmental Protection Agency's "WaterSense' program, they City of Greeley will be getting involved to help local residents save water by fixing those pesky leaking showerheads you may have with an exchange program.

All you have to do is take advantage of the exchange offer during the Tribune’s Home and Garden Show at Island Grove Park on March 13, March 14 or March 15. There is no fee to you which means you get a free showerhead by just bringing in your old one. Doesn't matter how many showers you have, bring in the old showerhead and get a new one free, no questions asked. The program is for Greeley residents only so bring your identification in case you are asked to prove your residency.

Another major culprit in your home is a silent leak in a toilet. An easy way to check your commode is by placing some food coloring in the tank and then wait 20 minutes. If you see color in the bowl, you have a leak and unless you use this method of testing, you'll never know.
