High fire danger conditions continued yesterday as winds raged up to  75 mph in the foothills reducing visibility on the plains and in the mountains. The Logan County brush fire ballooned to more than 30-thousand acres destroying four structures. More than 70 firefighters from 13 departments battled the blaze east of Sterling. Containment has been scaled back to 50 percent after “flare ups” throughout the night.

The National Weather Service issued a high wind and red flag warning for Weld County yesterday which fueled a ground fire that burned 10 acres in northwest Greeley. Greeley firefighters were on scene near F Street and 35th Avenue around 4:30 yesterday afternoon and had the blaze under control within 40 minutes. The cause of the fire is still under investigation… strong winds and dry conditions caused the fire to move and grow quickly.

Sparks from a welder fell into dry grass and started the 21-hundred acre fire north of Wellington Saturday. According to the Wellington Fire Protection District, the fire burned an area northwest of the Buckeye Road exit off I-25, about 20 miles north of Fort Collins, and placed some homes on pre-evacuation notice.
