Fatal Two-Car Collision Leaves Two Dead Near Fort Collins
Two people died in a two-car crash last night near the Budweiser Brewery. First responders extricated passengers from both cars in the crash near the intersection of county roads 52 and 9. Fort Collins Police responded to the accident at around 7:30 pm at the intersection of Richards Lake Road and Giddings Road north of Fort Collins.
A 1994 Honda Accord was traveling south on Giddings Road. A 1985 Chevrolet Corvette was traveling east on Richards Lake Road and collided with the passenger side of Accord. Both vehicles traveled southeast through the intersection before coming to rest in the field. The front passenger from each vehicle was ejected during the collision.
The driver of the Corvette, 18-year-old Connor Givans was transported by ambulance to Poudre Valley Hospital. The front passenger in the Corvette, 19-year-old David Muncy was airlifted to Medical Center of the Rockies.
The driver and front passenger of the Honda Accord, 17-year-old Joshua Cortez and his mother Kelly Cortez, died of multiple blunt force injuries - read more here.
The intersection of Richards Lake Road and Giddings Road was closed for approximately 8 hours while the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team investigated the incident. Police are working to determine if speed was a factor in the collision. Police do not believe alcohol was a contributing factor.
