It's nice to shop locally.

Not only because it supports people in our communities, but for other reasons as well.

There are so many different ways for us to cut back on how much we impact the environment. Buying things that don't have to be trucked across the country is one of them. You can buy your veggies from Colorado, and sometimes, you can even do that in the grocery store.

But, when I go to the Farmer's Market at Lemay and Harmony in the summer, I buy from a farm that is within a few miles. That leaves a smaller footprint in many ways, plus it supports a farm that is just a bit more than a stone's throw away from me.

With the hot weekend leading to today's 70's, it feels like it's time for the Farmer's Markets to be open, right? Well, we are almost there.

Here are the projected openings of the local farmers markets.

The Fort Collins Farmer's Market at Harmony and Lemay in Front of Ace Hardware

Open Wednesdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. rain or shine.

Larimer County Farmer's Market 200 Oak St. Old Town Fort Collins

May 16- Oct. 24, 2015, 8 a.m. - noon

Drake Road Farmer's Market

The Drake Road Farmer's Market returns a little earlier, going from April 18 through October 2015.

The Loveland Farmers Market on HWY 287 in front of Hobby Lobby (3133 N. Garfield)

The Greeley Farmer's Market is getting set for the summer, too!

Windsor Farmer's Market

The Windsor Farmer's Market starts around Pelican Fest and goes almost all the way to Halloween.
