False Report Ends in Assault On Larimer County Sheriff’s Deputy

It always amazes and never fails to disappoint me that there are some people in the world with nothing better to do than look to assault law enforcement officers. This particular incident happened in Fort Collins just this weekend.

According to a news release from Larimer County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a report of a disturbance in the 400 block of North Timberline Road on December 10 at approximately 12:30 a.m. Upon arrival, deputies learned there actually wasn't a disturbance. Instead, they were faced with 27-year-old Matthew Anguiano standing about 30 yards away in front of a residence, who then ran toward deputies yelling that he wanted to kill them.

Anguiano was taken to the ground after trying to punch one deputy. As they were going to the ground, the deputy lost his footing and landed on a curb, sustaining minor injuries to his back and hip.

He was taken into custody without further incident and the deputy's injuries were treated at a nearby hospital. Investigators learned there was no disturbance to begin with and Anguiano was simply seeking a confrontation with deputies.

Anguiano was booked into the Larimer County Jail on allegations of second degree assault on a peace officer, false report to authorities, and harassment. Charges are merely an accusation and Anguiano is presumed innocent until, and unless, proven guilty.
