Tonight is the 5th annual “Earth Hour”. No not “Earth Day”. That is coming up on April 22nd. Don’t feel badly if you didn’t know about it.  I didn’t know about “Earth Hour” until yesterday. I need to come out from under my rock more often. Here’s the skinny:

“Earth Hour” first hit the scene in Sydney, Australia in 2007. More than 2.2 million individuals and businesses turned out their lights for “one hour” to stand up against climate change.

With each year since the movement has grown globally. Last year, a record number, 128 countries, took part in this ever-growing movement. Major landmarks like the Eiffel Tower in Paris and many hotels on the Las Vegas Strip go dark for the event. You can see some cool before and during pictures from past Earth Hour events by clicking here. Some of the “during” pictures are really dark, ha ha.

Tonight’s “Earth Hour” starts at 8:30pm (local time) and lasts for one hour. You are encouraged to turn off all lights and electronics (if possible) for the duration. You can learn more about “Earth Hour” and how you can get involved by clicking here.
