The food industry and the American government are compromising our ability to be healthy.

This is something that I'm going to intensely focus on this year because it is something that I believe must be changed.

I only want it to be fair. If you want to engage in activities that you know are bad for you, that is totally fine with me. I also want you to leave me alone when I do the same. I'm an adult, and I can decide what to do with my life.

Things like drinking, smoking, using drugs, etc., we all know they are bad for us. Excessive sweet and fried foods? We know they are bad for us. If you want to be a fat, alcoholic, out of breath, out of shape, unhealthy mess, have at it. I really don't care.

However, if you want to be healthy but aren't because you think that what you are eating is good for you, but it really isn't, that's what I have an issue with.

The food industry, the chemical industry and the American government are colluding to keep us in the dark about what is good for us and what is not. That's not fair, not cool, and we can do something about it.

The videos that I am sharing are a great crash course in the root of the issue—that is, the government subsidizing or otherwise encouraging farming and food production practices that are killing us quickly.

Yeah, I am going to crusade on this because of one reason. That big companies aren't required to tell us that something is harmful to our health when that information has been confirmed for a long time is, in two words, fucking bullshit. You, your family members and friends are suffering and dying because of it.

Then, anytime anyone mentions 'regulation', scores of people scream 'communism!', while they eat, slather, and otherwise live around products that are killing them.

Requiring disclosure of ingredients, especially ones that are harmful, is not an undue burden. We have a right to know what we are buying.

It's okay for companies to sell whatever they want, but they need to inform us of what that is. Then it is our responsibility to choose wisely. But we can't choose wisely if we don't have the information we need. If that information is available, and we aren't looking at it, it's on us. But when it is not available, it's kind of hard for us to use it to make decisions.

This documentary by Peter Jennings and ABC aired all the way back in 2004. It is a look at how high fructose corn syrup came to dominate the food market as the go to sweetener, and what part the government played in it.

This is a big element in the scourge of disease that is ravaging the most prosperous country in the world. In the 1970's when they realized that they could manipulate corn syrup and flavor science to take food out of food, and thereby make it less expensive to produce, that was when the epidemic began.

These videos are just a good introduction to the fact that the food we are eating probably isn't what we think it is.

The scary part is that it barely focuses on the dangers of plants that are genetically modified to make them more resistant to pesticides.

Even before the issue of GMO's come in, our food system was already broken, as is evidenced by the amount of obese people walking around, the growing prevalance of cancer and diabetes.

The moral of the story is that for some of the bad health that we are experiencing, we are not responsible. We trusted big food companies and we are dying because of it.

So, now that we know that the majority of food on the shelves of the stores is terrible for us, it's our responsibility to play catch up, stop buying the crap, and watch these greedy companies quickly change because they are so desperate for our money.
