A lot of people like Sprouts Farmers Market. Good prices on good food. “Healthy Living for Less” is one of their slogans.  We have two Sprouts locations in Fort Collins and one in Greeley so far. Soon, there’ll be on in Loveland.  The city council for Loveland gave Sprouts some incentives to build the new store, and some aren't happy.

Coming to the northeast corner of Eisenhower and Lincoln in Loveland-  Sprouts!  If you live in the area, you can see this as either- A) “A great thing! That area desperately needs a grocery story of some kind!”  Or, B)- “What? How are we going to deal with all that traffic in such a small area? Boooo!”

Loveland’s City Council approved (6-3) incentives for the chain’s new store recently. The deal has it that Sprouts will get back $2.2 million from Loveland, over six years, though taxes collected at the location. In addition they were given a waiver on having to pay $97,000 in building and usage fees.

So, Sprouts will spring up soon.  The Reporter-Herald has a quote from one of the council members who voted against the incentives saying that several council members are looking to get rid of Loveland’s food sales tax completely. Completely? That would be a big deal! But, where would Loveland get the money to reimburse Sprouts as they’ve now promised?

Have they gone and put the [grocery] cart before the horse?
