After seeing a growing trend on my Facebook feed, and reading several online articles, a growing number of women seem to be turning their gaze to an unexpected type of man. As the summer approaches and both women and men prepare to don less clothing, many people are looking to get into shape. Like many men, I make sure to remind my wife that "round" is a shape. However, it seems that my particular physique is becoming more desirable by women across the country.

Recently, I kept seeing women post on Facebook about the "Dad Body," and this is the body type that women from college to cougar are becoming more and more attracted to. Being a "dad" and seeing this on social media, I had to look into things. According to an article in the Washington Post, the "Dad Body," is a "nice balance between a beer gut and working out, the, I go to the gym occasionally, but I also drink heavily on the weekends and enjoy eating eight slices of pizza at a time mentality."

GQ even went as far as to write an article called "What is Dad Bod, and Do you Have It?" In that article they say, “The Dad Bod makes men look more human, natural, and attractive. That the lackadaisical approach to fitness comes off as less intimidating, allows for better cuddling, and presumably, better food."

Now, many women love the six-pack, and every guy would like to have one. But think about it: as much as a woman say they like them, a six-pack can actually come off as intimidating to a woman. Just imagine the body shaming, or the pressure to keep up, or the second-guessing everything you eat when you go out to dinner. In an article by People Magazine they say that a guy with "dad body" allows women to relax. They say that women "don't want a guy that makes them feel insecure about their body, they're insecure enough as it is. They don't need a perfectly sculpted guy standing next to them to make them feel worse."

So after years of falling off the "workout wagon," it turns out I've actually been molding myself into a symbol of female desire. From now on, every day when I get out of the shower and see the reflection in the mirror of my glistening "Dad Body" I'm no longer going to shame myself first thing in the morning before I go to work about how I need to start hitting the gym more. Instead, I'm going to give myself a mental hi-five, knowing that there are some women out there that find my growing physique appealing and comforting.
