You think you know stuff about your hometown, then…. Boom. The Black Steer in downtown- its owners own more than just that restaurant around town. Say what?

I just found this out and was like, ‘What?’

The Black Steer in downtown Loveland, has been around since 1966. It’s pretty much historic!  How many prom dates, anniversaries, and business lunches has that place seen in almost 50 years? Not to mention The Rear of The Steer, the bar in the back of the restaurant, has seen its own fair share of festivities!

The Black Steer may be a little outdated these days, but folks still enjoy stopping in and enjoying their signature ‘Pepper Steak’ every once in a while, and the Rear can get pretty hopping as well, with all the new apartments going up!

The couple that currently owns the restaurant - Hamid and Janice Eslan, have owned it for over 20 years. You may have known that; I did not. But did YOU know, that they also own the La Quinta Hotel/The Fountains Events Center/Backbone Gourmet Grub and Brewhouse complex out on Highway 34?  I had no idea, at all!

Not that there’s anything wrong with that! It’s just crazy, to me, when you find out stuff that connects the town.  In this case downtown being connected to the western outskirts.

This all came up, because the Eslans investment group will be opening another hotel in Johnstown – out at ‘2534’  – The Windgate by Wyndham.  There are only two other Windgates in Colorado- Pueblo and Greenwood Village. I checked out rates for Greenwood Village- they are about average- around $120/night.  The new hotel should be opening sometime in 2016.

So, with the Windgate, the Eslan’s will have properties on south side of Loveland (The Black Steer), the west side (La Quinta), and the east side of Loveland (Yes, it is Johnstown, but for my argument, go along.)  This just leave the north side of town for them to tackle with their conglomerate. Maybe something along 287 near 57th! That area would be perfect!

Is ‘conglomerate’ too strong of a word?  Hard to say.  It is just little ol’ Loveland, after all!
