Before you lace up your hiking boots for a hike up Devil's Backbone make sure it will be open.  According to the Coloradoan, one of Larimer County's most popular open spaces will be getting a $360,000 makeover.  Part of this makeover will include 35 additional parking spaces and a new trail.

Construction is slated to close Devil's Backbone for four weeks, beginning Feb. 1st.  The Morrison Loop Trail will be closed as well as the Wild Loop Trail.  You will still be able to access the open space via the Blue Sky Trailhead, near Horsetooth Reservoir, and Coyote Ridge Natural Area.

Some of the other improvements will include a webcam in the parking lot (installed in the spring/summer), a multi-use equestrian and mountain bike trail through the Hidden Valley area.

This is one of my personal favorite hikes in Northern Colorado.  It's absolutely gorgeous, and Lucy the Wonder Dog loves it quite a bit too.
