Last week the Obama Campaign announced they would be making a campaign stop in Fort Collins on Tuesday August 28th, details at that time were pretty vague.

There will be some closures on the CSU campus and a lot of Fort Collins will be affected by traffic, security and parking in the area. Read on to find out what will be closed and where you won’t be able to drive during the President’s visit.According to CSU, President Barack Obama is scheduled to speak at the Monfort Quad on Colorado State University’s campus tomorrow. Gates open at 2 p.m. and the public entrance will be located between the Clark and Eddy buildings.

There will be parking available at Hughes Stadium (1800 South Overland Trail) in the East lot at gates 1 and 2. And shuttle buses will start running at noon. (ADA parking will be on the second, third and fourth floors of the Lake Street Garage with an event ticket and ADA parking tag.)

The event is free, but everyone must have a ticket, and those are being distributed through the Obama for America campaign.

And, as you’d expect, everyone will have to go through airport-like security. (No bags, sharp objects, umbrellas, liquids or signs will be allowed.) you can, however, bring your Camera.

There are lots of classes that will be moved and/or rescheduled you can keep up to date on those changes on CSU’s website.

There are some street closures as well:

Street closures will begin at 4 a.m. Tuesday and remain closed through the end of the event. Cars not removed from these areas will be towed beginning at 5 a.m. Tuesday.

For information about cars that are towed, contact the Colorado State University Parking Services at (970) 491-7041. Vehicles will be towed to campus parking lot #240 at the intersection of Pitkin Street and Merdian Drive.

Impacted streets are:

  • East Drive from University to Pitkin Street and access to East Drive from lot #445 will be closed to traffic and parking
  • A Street between Mason Street and East Drive will be closed to traffic and parking
  • University Avenue between East Drive and Centre Avenue will be closed to traffic and parking
  • Edison Drive west of the General Services Building will be closed to traffic and parking
  • Some street parking at the intersection of Centre Ave and West Lake Street, near the Lake Street Garage, also will be closed

All of this info is posted here  on CSU ‘s website and is all subject to change. Make sure you look at their website before you do any driving around campus and make sure you don’t get stuck in a major headache. Also make sure you don’t have a car parked anywhere that is going to be towed.

Fort Collins, prepare to become a media circus tomorrow.
