Greeley instituted a common consumption district last year that allowed people to drink alcohol in specially designated outdoor areas at certain times of the week. On some Fridays last summer, people could go into a Greeley bar, enjoy a drink, and if they wanted, take it and enjoy the 9th St. Plaza along with it.

The program was successful all the way around. Patrons enjoyed it, business picked up and it was a great scene for Greeley.

Denver took notice and now may do something similar this summer.

One likely area for the proposed entertainment districts is Larimer Square between 14th and 15th Streets. Denver officials were inspired by the success Greeley had last year when it allowed common consumption in the enclosed area of the Ninth Street Plaza on Fridays.

Summer weather is meant to be enjoyed, and for some people, there is no better way to enjoy it than with a refreshing cocktail on a Friday in the summer.
