Couples can have issues.  Most of the time, these issues can be worked out; and the couple is stronger for having been through them together.  I’m engaged, and I know my relationship would not be nearly as strong as it is without the occasional bump in the road.  I feel like a relationship shouldn’t continue if certain things happen, though…like life-threatening physical violence.

British chef Gregory Todd, 48, was in court last December when he decided to propose to his girlfriend, 32-year-old Tiffany Baillie, according to The Telegraph.  He had to propose through his lawyer, due to the fact that he was the plaintiff in an attempted murder case against Baillie.

Baillie was in court to admit to stabbing Todd in the back with a 12-inch knife while he slept.

The attack came around the anniversary of the death of Baillie’s ten-week old son and also came shortly after she had suffered a miscarriage.

Her lawyer said she had been struggling to deal with the grief at the time and could not explain why she had stabbed Mr Todd.

Todd would have died from the stab wound if he hadn’t had immediate emergency surgery.

I’ll say it again: there are some things from which a relationship just shouldn’t try to recover.  I don’t think I could ever look at someone the same way again, after being harmed in such an intentional way; and this guy wants to look at the woman who stabbed him in his sleep every day for the rest of his life!

But maybe I’m being short-sighted.  What do you think?
