Upon returning home from serving our country, transitioning back into a normal lifestyle is one of the biggest challenges that a veteran has to face. CSU tries to make this major change as easy as possible, helping veterans to adjust both psychologically and socially by offering special programs and services especially designed to help find their role in civilian life.

New Start is just one of the beneficial programs offered at CSU and is currently working with more than 40 student veterans. With this, the Department of Occupational Therapy helps to assist veterans who have disabilities including post-traumatic stress disorder and brain injuries, as well as other emotional and physical impairments sustained while serving. Also on campus is the Adult Learner and and Veterans Service Center and the Veteran Educational Benefits Office, both of which are extremely welcoming and make it their mission to make the transitioning experience one that's comfortable and effective.

Because of the many resources that the university provides, along with their continuous efforts to make things easier for veterans by offering affordable and accessible options, G.I. Jobs magazine has ranked CSU among the top military-friendly schools in the nation for six years in a row. Most recently, Colorado State landed 13th on the list put out by Military Times, out of a total of 125 four-year schools, nationally ranking them as being one of the top 'Best for Vets' universities. This accolade also makes them the highest-ranked Colorado school to place on the list. In addition, U.S. News and World Report recently ranked Colorado State University’s online bachelor’s, MBA, and graduate-level education programs among the best in the nation for veterans and Military Advanced Education’s 2015 Guide to College and Universities also designated CSU as a top school.

The overall services provided to veterans at CSU, as well as the reputable staff that's willing to take the time to help former soldiers readjust, play such vital and positive role in assisting with the shift back into everyday routines. CSU has about 1,550 veterans and GI Benefit users currently enrolled as students and hope to have even more in years to come.

In honor of Veterans Day, CSU is participating in the National Roll Call event on November 11. The event will occur in the Lory Student Center Sculpture Garden near the LSC Theater between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. A moment of silence will take place at 12 p.m.
