Have you donated blood lately? It might be a good thing for you to go donate some right now. According to the Coloradoan, Officials with the Garth Englund Blood Center say there is a critical blood shortage in the Fort Collins/Loveland area. (Namely; at Poudre Valley Hospital and Medical Center of the Rockies.)

How and where can you donate?

Walk-in donors are welcomed at the Garth Englund center in Loveland’s Medical Center of the Rockies or at their Fort Collins center at 1025 Pennock Place, Suite 104. (Two blocks north of Poudre Valley Hospital.) However, donation by appointment is encouraged.

Appointments to donate blood can be made by calling:

  • 970-495-8965 in Fort Collins
  • 970-624-1550 in Loveland

All blood types are needed, but the most critical needs are for O positive and O negative.

Keep in mind there are some restriction as to who can donate blood: New donors must be at least 18 years old (17 with a parental permission), have a valid photo ID, must weigh at least 120 pounds and be in good health.

Donating doesn’t take very long, the whole process takes about 45 minutes and the actual drawing of your blood only takes 5-10 minutes.

And think about it, 45 minutes of your time and a needle-prick in you arm could save someone's life. (Plus, you can look forward to juice and cookies afterwards. ;) )
