CDOT and construction crews are working 24 hours a day to meet the December 1st deadline to re-open the 18 miles of flood-destroyed highway between Loveland and Estes Park. U.S. 34 has been closed through the Big Thompson Canyon since the flood. Workers expect to meet the deadline and note things won't look the way they did before.

"In some spots, the road will be lower and it will be narrower in others," CDOT resident engineer Scott Ellis said.

At least 160 people are working on the project round the clock, using 70 pieces of equipment.
