Groundhog Day is Thursday, February 2nd. It's the day Punxsutawney Phil emerges to let us know if spring will arrive early, or if he sees his shadow, he'll head back to his burrow, and we will see winter weather for six more weeks.

Phil has correctly predicted the weather 39% which means you have a greater chance of predicting the weather using a coin, but it is a fun, tongue-in-cheek holiday, and one that 30% of Americans believe is a pointless holiday. Don't tell that to the people of Punxsutawney though; hotel rooms are already averaging more per night than those at the Super Bowl in Houston.

Did you know Phil is not the only groundhog in the U.S. that people look to for the prediction of spring?

A groundhog by any other name....

In Aurora, Colorado we have Stormy Marmot! Check out the names of some other states/countries with groundhogs that make their appearance on Feb. 2nd.

Balzac Billy hails from Alberta.
Buckeye Chuck calls Marion, Ohio home.
Chattanooga Chuck (nice alliteration) is from, you guessed, it Chattanooga, TN.
General Beauregard Lee from Lilburn, Georgia.
Jimmy the Groundhog is from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.

My favorite groundhog name is from the great state of Louisiana. Pierre C. Shadeaux.

To fall into an internet wormhole, check out some more U.S. groundhogs, and their prediction rates here.

Whether you believe the groundhog lore or not, keep in mind, a survey by National Today showed that 3% of people had used Groundhog Day as an excuse not to go to work. So. There's that.
